  • French conductor Philippe Jordan, music director at the Opéra national de Paris, will make his debut at the Bayreuth Festival today, conducting Parsifal. Christian Merlin caught up with him to get his thoughts on being called up the Green Hill, a place he did not really want to go until he conducted the Ring cycle in Paris. "That was when I decided I had to get to know the acoustic of the place for which this music was composed," he said. "I found the place fascinating: the silence that reigns there, the tranquility of nature, the simplicity, the childish spirit, almost of summer camp." No sense of snobbery? Merlin asked.
